Using Innovated Traumastem Biodress in Chronic Wounds Treatment
uveřejněno: 26. 07. 2010
n spring 2009, during the treatment of chronic wounds, I tested a sterile, resorbable, bioactive dressing Traumastem Biodress. I already introduced my experience with this dressing in combination with Hyiodine in the summer issue if this magazine for nurses. This combination proved successful; only a necessity of using another overlying dressing of the wound was a disadvantage. We tested several various materials but we were not a hundred percent satisfied with the result. Using the sterile square dressing, it was necessary to exchange them more often, which resulted in financial impact but also it was more work for nursing staff. Modern materials with a high absorbency did not need to be exchanged that often, however the financial demands were not acceptable.

In spring 2009, during the treatment of chronic wounds,
I tested a sterile, resorbable, bioactive dressing Traumastem
Biodress. I already introduced my experience with this dressing in
combination with Hyiodine in the summer issue if this magazine for nurses. This
combination proved successful; only a necessity of using another overlying
dressing of the wound was a disadvantage. We tested several various materials
but we were not a hundred percent satisfied with the result. Using the sterile
square dressing, it was necessary to exchange them more often, which resulted in
financial impact but also it was more work for nursing staff. Modern materials
with a high absorbency did not need to be exchanged that often, however the
financial demands were not acceptable. In the autumn we had an opportunity to
try the new Traumastem Biodress Comfort. We started using this
innovated variant of the dressing which we already had known with high
expectations. Traumastem Biodress Comfort is supplied in the
packaging containing 10×10 cm square of sterile, resorbable bioactive
dressing, and non-adherent, highly absorbent dressing of size 16×16
cm. It is possible to cut both materials, which is very advantageous.
A handling of this material is very easy, not time-consuming and, after being
given thorough instruction, a family member or the patient himself can treat
(rebandage) the wound. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use this dressing
for infected wounds, which we see in practice very often. For the
infected wounds, the product Traumastem Biodress
Disinfect was developed by the producer. The packaging content is
identical with Traumastem Biodress Comfort but, in addition,
the absorbent dressing contains an antimicrobial substance Chlorhexidine
0,2 – 0,5 % by weight. This antiseptic kills a wide range of gram-positive
and gram-negative bacteria. This results in reducing of bacterial load,
cleansing the wound base and starting and accelerating the granulation and
ephitalisation process. Moreover, Traumastem Biodress Disinfect
reduces the wound foetor, what is well appreciated by patients. When searching
for suitable dressing materials, affordability and even complications during
doctor´s prescribing play an important role. Compared to the original
resorbable dressing, the advantage of innovated products of Traumastem
Biodress range is a minimal price increase but also no need of revision
doctor´s approval. If I should generally evaluate these two new materials,
the rebandages are painless for the patient, the dressing does not stick to the
wound and the overall appearance of the dressing is very neat. Time saving and
easy application are advantageous for the nursing staff. Surgeons appreciate
affordability and minimal administrative work.
I hope that the year 2010 brings more perfect materials to our market. I wish
all colleagues a lot of success and satisfaction in chronic wounds
treatment.
