Frequently Asked Questions

Traumastem TAF / TAF light

What are the indications and advantages of Traumastem / TAF light?

What type of bleeding is Traumastem TAF/TAF light intended for?

Traumastem TAF/TAF light is used to stop capillary, venous, slight arterial bleeding as well as to prevent bleeding in the early post-operative stages. Traumastem TAF Light is suitable for use in all ways of stopping diffuse haemorrhaging in the resection areas of organ parenchyma, muscles or circumscribed body cavities (such as the small pelvis) without contraindications.

It is possible to use Traumastem for adhesions in gynecologic surgery?

We have an extensive experience with Traumastem in gastrointestinal and gynecologic oncological surgery. Traumastem is an excellent measure for topical haemostasis and its prevention. However its influence on adhesions as you mean is known only from several cases of reoperative surgery. This experience has been acquired neither on scientific basis nor from experimental studies, but from everyday clinical work. From this point of view we think that using Traumastem may prevent adhesion formations and the cases of reoperative surgery confirm this our presumption.

What types of operations is Traumastem TAF/TAF light suitable for?

Traumastem TAF/TAF light is suitable for use in all surgical fields. Its broad application range allows for use in traditional surgery, laparoscopy, robotic surgery, endoscopy as well as one-day surgery.

How quickly does haemostasis occur?

Haemostasis usually occurs within 1–2 minutes. This time can be longer in some cases and depends on the intensity and the type of bleeding.

What are the advantages of Traumastem TAF/TAF light?

Traumastem TAF/TAF light ensures a quick and effective haemostasis and minimizes blood loss and complications perioperatively and in the early post-operative stages. Traumastem TAF/TAF light also has considerable antibacterial activity, is one of the factors accelerating biochemical processes and enhances the healing process. It is atraumatic and does not have to be removed from the place of application. It is fully biodegradable and completely biocompatible.

How should Traumastem TAF / TAF light be applied?

How is Traumastem TAF/TAF light used?

Traumastem TAF/TAF light may simply be put on the required place by gentle pressure, fixed with a stitch, sewed onto a tissue or an organ or used as tamponade.

Is Traumastem TAF/TAF light fully absorbable?

Yes, Traumastem TAF/TAF light is fully absorbable. It is absorbed within 48 – 72 hours depending on the intensity of bleeding. It is completely removed from the body within 21 days.

Does Traumastem TAF/TAF light have to be removed from the place of application?

Traumastem TAF/TAF light is perfectly absorbed by organism. It does not have to be removed from the place of application which eliminates the possibility of new bleeding, traumatization of the patient or disruption of the healing process. Nevertheless, whether the haemostatic reticulum will be removed or not is entirely at the physician’s discretion. In cases of neurosurgery, we recommend leaving the reticulum in the surgical wound.

What quantity of haemostatic reticulum should be applied?

The quantity of Traumastem TAF/TAF light to be applied depends on the intensity and type of bleeding. In cases of massive bleeding where the haemostatic reticulum gets soaked quickly, another layer of Traumastem TAF/TAF light may be applied.

Does Traumastem TAF / TAF light have any side effects, is it allergenic? What are its contraindications?

Have there been registered any side effects in connection with the application of Traumastem TAF/TAF light?

No side effects have been detected after the application of Traumastem TAF/TAF light to date. Preclinical as well as clinical tests and many years of experience have not revealed any side effects.

Traumastem biodress

What is Traumastem biodress and what the advantages of using it?

What is Traumastem biodress?

Traumastem biodress is a unique natural oxidized cellulose dressing for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds.

What are the effects of Traumastem biodress?

Traumastem biodress creates a favorable moist microclimate in a wound, has antibacterial activity, inactivates proteases and contributes to the stabilization of the internal environment in a wound. It significantly enhances granulation and epithelization and reduces pain in a wound. Traumastem biodress is fully absorbable, therefore preventing traumatization and supports the healing process. In addition, Traumastem biodress has haemostatic effects.

What makes Traumastem biodress unique?

Traumastem biodress considerably accelerates healing, particularly in the granulation and epithelization phases. In coated, highly exuding wounds, Traumastem biodress cleans and revitalizes the wound base and triggers granulation. If applied to clean granulated wounds, epithelization begins very quickly both at the edges and the centre of wounds. Traumastem biodress is applicable to all types of wounds (however, it is not intended for dry and necrotic wounds). Traumastem biodress considerably reduces pain in a wound, thus improving the mental and overall condition of a patient. Traumastem biodress is fully absorbable, atraumatic, hypoallergenic and without any side effects.

What are the indications of Traumastem biodress?

What types of wounds is Traumastem suitable for?

Traumastem biodress is suitable for chronic wounds such as venous ulcers or decubituses and acute wounds that are healed both per primam as well as per secundam, for stopping capillary, venous and very slight arterial bleeding in first-aid applications as well as in surgery, for treatment of burns and the like.

What types of venous ulcerations may Traumastem biodress be used for?

Traumastem biodress is suitable for all types of venous ulcerations (however, it is not intended for dry and necrotic wounds). It may be applied to mildly, moderately and heavily exuding wounds, infected wounds as well as hard-to-heal wounds.

Is Traumastem also suitable for hard-to-heal wounds?

Yes Traumastem biodress is suitable for hard-to-heal wounds as well. Very positive results have been demonstrated with the application of Traumastem biodress to wounds of this type.

How quickly does Traumastem biodress reduce pain and the wound area?

How long does it take to heal a venous ulceration if Traumastem biodress is applied?

A venous ulcer’s healing time is very case specific and depends on many factors such as the quality of treatment of the ulcer, the cause of the ulcer and associated diagnoses. From our experience, the ulcer area already begins to shrink after two weeks, if carefully treated.

How long does it take before wound pain recedes?

In our experience, relief from wound pain already arrives during the first week of application.

How is Traumastem biodress used?

How is Traumastem biodress applied to a chronic wound?

Before the application of Traumastem biodress, we recommend applying a compress solution to the wound for 10 – 15 minutes. Once the area around the wound has been treated by standard means (e.g. indifferent paste or antimicrobial solution, as the case may be), apply Traumastem biodress to the wound, ensuring that it does not extend over the edge of the wound. The size of the applied Traumastem biodress may be adjusted to the size of the wound by trimming. Then apply a secondary dressing (such as oily gauze) and fix it in place with a hydrophilic bandage. The dressing may be kept on the wound for 1–3 days. The frequency of redressing depends on the quantity of exudate.

Is Traumastem biodress suitable for long-term application?

Yes, Traumastem biodress is suitable for long-term application without any side effects.

How often should chronic wounds be redressed?

The frequency of redressing depends on the quantity of wound exudate. Heavily exuding wounds must be redressed on a daily basis, while moderately exuding wounds should be redressed every second day and mildly exuding wounds in the phase of epithelization every third day.

How does one proceed in redressing chronic wounds?

Remove the hydrophilic bandage and secondary dressing. Apply a compress solution to the wound for 10 – 15 minutes. If there are any residues of unabsorbed Traumastem biodress on the edges of the wound, remove them carefully by applying a compress solution. Treat the area around the wound by indifferent paste. Adjust the size of the new dressing to the size of the wound so that it does not extend over its edges and can be fully absorbed. Then apply a secondary dressing and fix it in place with a hydrophilic bandage.

Is Traumastem biodress always absorbed fully?

Yes, Traumastem biodress is fully absorbable. It is absorbed within 48 – 72 hours depending on the intensity of exudation and bleeding in a wound. Being fully absorbable, it prevents the risk of traumatization and accelerates the healing process. However, if applied to moderately or slightly exuding wounds over its edges, Traumastem biodress may not be absorbed fully. The unabsorbed residues need to be removed from wound edges by applying a compress solution for 10 – 15 minutes.

What compress solution is suitable for application in a wound?

It depends on your usage and physician’s recommendations. In cases of strongly coated wounds, we recommend using a solution with antimicrobial properties.
