At Cardiac Surgery Clinic of Medical Faculty of Charles University and Faculty Hospital in Hradec Králové, we have been working for many years at both elective treatment of COPD consequence and urgent surgical treatment of reoccurring, often even tension pneumothorax. Just for reinforcement of suture of often very fragile pulmonary tissue, we have tried various padding (underlying) materials, e.g. autologous pericardium, pads from expanded polytetrafluorinethylen or material from bovine collagen.
Recently we started regularly using a new type of slips for staplers – Traumacel Stapler Seam Protection. It is a sterile, resorbable, biocompatible material increasing the safety of mechanical suture. It is made of 100% oxidized cellulose which has significant antibacterial effect against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
